Questions & limits
- Is this run by GKS or the Korean government?
- No. StudySunbae is an independent project and is not affiliated with GKS, NIIED, or the South Korean government. It gives you a quick, unofficial pre-check — always confirm the requirements against the GKS application guidelines for your round.
- How does the GPA check work?
- You pick your grading scale, enter your GPA, and the tool compares it to the GKS baseline — roughly the top 20% of your class. The calculation runs entirely in your browser.
- Is my GPA stored or sent anywhere?
- Your GPA, age, and TOPIK level are calculated in your browser and are never saved to a database or sent to analytics. The one exception is honest: if you create a share link, your GPA is encoded in that link's address, so anyone who opens it — and the server that serves it — can read it. Your email is stored only if you opt in to deadline alerts.
- What does a “Borderline” result mean?
- It means your number sits right at the edge of the baseline. Because schools convert grades differently, a borderline result is exactly when you should double-check your school's own percentage conversion before you rely on it.
- My school uses a 10-point or percentage scale — is the result exact?
- For some scales the tool shows an “Approximation used” label on the converted number, meaning that figure is a rough estimate, not a precise conversion. A 100-point scale is compared directly. Whatever scale you use, confirm the exact conversion with your university's registrar.
- Does a “Likely meets” result mean I will get the scholarship?
- No. GPA is only one requirement. A “Likely meets” result means your GPA alone looks to clear the baseline — selection also weighs your study plan, language ability, recommendations, and more. Treat this as a first filter, not a decision.
